Confidence in Christ and Living by the Spirit

1 John 3:21-24 NLT
[21] Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. [22] And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. [23] And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. [24] Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.
This passage reminds us of the unshakable confidence we have in God when our hearts are free from guilt and condemnation. It reveals a profound truth: when we align our lives with God’s commandments, we can boldly approach Him, knowing that He hears and answers our prayers. However, this is not about fulfilling personal desires but seeking the will of God, which is rooted in faith in Jesus Christ and love for one another.
John emphasizes that true fellowship with God comes through obedience to His commandments. These are not burdensome but simple and life-giving: to believe in Jesus Christ and to love one another. By doing so, we abide in Him, and His Spirit abides in us, giving us the assurance that we are His children.
1. Walk in Confidence: When your conscience is clear, you can approach God with boldness. Examine your heart daily, confess your sins, and receive His forgiveness so that nothing hinders your fellowship with Him.
2. Pray According to His Will: Align your desires with God’s heart. When you obey and seek what pleases Him, your prayers will naturally reflect His perfect will, and you will see Him move powerfully in your life.
3. Live in Love: Love for others is evidence of God’s Spirit in you. Seek to show Christ’s love in practical ways—through forgiveness, generosity, and kindness.
4. Abide in the Spirit: The Holy Spirit within you is the seal of your relationship with God. Trust His guidance and rely on His power to live a life that reflects Christ.
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a heart surrendered to Your will. Thank You for the gift of bold confidence through Christ and the assurance that You hear me when I pray. Help me to live a life that pleases You—believing in Jesus, loving others, and obeying Your commands. Holy Spirit, guide me daily and let Your love flow through me. Teach me to pray in alignment with Your will, trusting that You will answer in Your perfect way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
