Guarding Your Mind In Christ
Colossians 2:8 NLT
"Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ."
Good morning Ekklesia
As we journey in faith, it is essential to be vigilant against the many voices and ideologies that seek to capture our minds. The Apostle Paul, writing to the Colossians, warns us of the dangers of being deceived by empty philosophies—ideas that sound profound but are devoid of truth. These deceptions often originate from human reasoning, influenced by the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.
In this verse, the Greek word *sylagōgeō*, translated as "capture," paints a vivid picture of being carried off as spoil or plunder. Paul is urging us not to allow our thoughts and beliefs to be taken captive by ideas that are not rooted in Christ. As believers, we must ground our minds in the truth of God’s Word, discerning what aligns with the teachings of Jesus and rejecting anything that contradicts Him.
In today's world, we are bombarded with information from every direction—social media, news, entertainment, and even well-meaning friends. It's easy to be swayed by ideas that sound good on the surface but lead us away from the truth of the Gospel. As Christians, we are called to examine everything through the lens of Scripture. When faced with a new philosophy or trend, ask yourself: Does this align with the teachings of Christ? Is it rooted in God's Word, or does it stem from human wisdom?
To keep our minds aligned with Christ, we must regularly immerse ourselves in the Bible, seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance to discern truth from error. Let us be diligent in our study of God's Word, ensuring that our faith is built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.
Today, I encourage you to recommit to following Jesus with all your heart, mind, and strength. Let us not be swayed by the world but be steadfast in our discipleship. If you haven't yet, make the decision to follow Jesus, learn from His teachings, and grow in your relationship with Him daily.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the truth that is found in Jesus Christ. Help us to guard our minds against the empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that the world offers. Strengthen our faith and give us discernment through Your Holy Spirit. May we remain rooted in Your Word and follow Jesus with unwavering devotion. Guide us in our journey of discipleship, and let our lives be a reflection of Your truth and love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
