Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
Exegesis & Simple Synopsis
Paul is teaching us here about the nature of true, godly love—agape love. This is not just an emotion or feeling; it is an active choice, a way of life. Love is patient—meaning it bears with others even when they frustrate us. It is kind—showing mercy and compassion. It does not seek to dominate, control, or hold grudges. True love refuses to celebrate evil but rejoices in truth. Most importantly, love never quits—it remains faithful, hopeful, and strong, no matter the circumstance.
This love is not something we manufacture on our own; it is the love of Christ flowing through us. Without the Holy Spirit, our love is conditional. But with God’s presence, our love can reflect His perfect, unchanging love for us.
Practical Life-Changing Application
Today, ask yourself: Am I living out this kind of love? In my family, my church, my workplace—do I show patience and kindness? Do I hold onto past hurts, or do I choose forgiveness? When faced with trials, do I love like Jesus?
Let us be a people marked by love! When the world sees us, let them see Christ through the way we love.
Prayer of Surrender & Encouragement
Father, I surrender my heart to Your love. Transform me by Your Spirit so that I can love like Jesus. Remove any pride, bitterness, or selfishness in me. Help me to be patient, kind, forgiving, and steadfast. Fill me with Your love so that I can be a reflection of You to the world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
