Obedience to the Voice of God

Good morning Ekklesia

Isaiah 1:19 (NLT): "If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat."

John 10:27 (NLT): "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."

Obedience to the voice of God is one of the most powerful expressions of our faith. In Isaiah 1:19, God promises abundance to those who obey. It’s a call to trust that God’s commands are not burdensome but rather lead to provision and fulfillment. Similarly, in John 10:27, Jesus speaks of the intimate relationship between Him and His followers—they listen, they hear His voice, and they follow.

Isaiah 1:19 highlights the conditional promise: obedience leads to blessing. The Hebrew root for "obey" is shama, meaning to hear and respond with action. This reminds us that true obedience requires both hearing and doing. John 10:27 reinforces this by portraying Jesus as the Good Shepherd whose sheep—His disciples—know His voice and follow Him. They are distinguished by their ability to discern His leading amidst the noise of the world.

How often do we hear God's voice but hesitate to follow through because of fear or uncertainty? God calls us to a life of faith, where we must trust His plan, even when we cannot see the outcome. When you take that step of obedience—whether it's in your relationships, career, or ministry—God opens doors you never thought possible. Hearing God’s voice requires a quieted spirit, tuning out the distractions around us, and trusting His guidance daily.

Father, thank You for speaking to me today. Give me the courage to listen and obey, even when I do not understand. Strengthen my faith to trust Your voice and walk in Your ways. Help me to be a faithful disciple, ready to respond to Your call. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today, God is calling you to a deeper walk of obedience. Will you respond to His voice? At Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries, we invite you to grow with us as we follow Christ wholeheartedly. Join us at EkklesiaChristianLife.org/family to begin your journey in faith, obedience, and discipleship. Together, we can make a difference as we listen to and obey the voice of our Good Shepherd.
