Just because I want something doesn't mean God wants it for me.
Today's Scripture
Genesis 3:1–21; Luke 22:42; Romans 5:12–19
Have you ever wanted something so badly that you ignored a warning? Maybe you wanted to send a message while angry, join in when friends made fun of someone, or hide a mistake rather than tell the truth.
In Genesis 3, the serpent questioned God's instruction. Adam and Eve chose what seemed desirable rather than trusting what God had said. Their choice damaged relationships and brought painful consequences.
But this isn't only about an ancient garden. We face choices between what feels good right now and what is right before God. A strong feeling is real, but it isn't always reliable guidance.
God giving us the freedom to choose does not mean He approves of every choice.
Two Gardens, Two Choices
Eden: Adam and Eve chose their own way over God's command.
Gethsemane: Jesus prayed, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42, KJV).
Jesus understood the suffering ahead of Him, yet He trusted the Father. Romans 5:19 contrasts Adam's disobedience with Christ's obedience. Our hope is not that we never make mistakes; our hope is in Jesus, who obeyed and opens the way to new life.
Three Questions Before You Decide
1. Does this agree with what Scripture teaches?
2. Am I acting out of love, truth, and wisdom—or pressure, anger, or pride?
3. Would I still choose this if nobody were watching?
Ask a trusted parent, guardian, or mentor for help when the choice is difficult.

Where is it hardest for you to say, “God, Your way—not mine”?
Faith in Action
Before one important decision today, pause for ten seconds. Pray, check your motives, and choose the action that reflects God's Word and love for others.
Today's Prayer
Father, help me recognize when my desires are pulling me away from Your wisdom. Thank You for Jesus, who obeyed You. Give me courage to choose truth, kindness, and obedience. In Jesus' name, amen.
