EVEN IN THE STORM, YET WILL I PRAISE HIM!

One Word That Changes My Response: YET!

GRATEFUL — Even Here, Even Now, Even in This

One Word • Every Generation

Today’s Word

Habakkuk 3:17–19 (KJV)

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength...”

Good morning, Ekklesia Family!

As we come to the conclusion of another week, I want to leave you with a word that I believe can change how we approach difficult circumstances.

YET!

It’s a small word, but in Habakkuk chapter 3, it carries a powerful declaration of faith.

Habakkuk was living during a troubling time. He had questions about the conditions surrounding him, and God’s answers weren’t necessarily what he expected. He knew difficult days were ahead.

And in chapter 3, he describes a devastating possibility.

The fig tree doesn’t blossom. The vines don’t produce fruit. The olive harvest fails. The fields produce no food. The flocks are gone. The stalls are empty.

In Habakkuk’s world, these things represented the resources people depended upon for survival. He’s describing the possibility of losing nearly everything that provided security and stability.

But then he makes an extraordinary declaration: “YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD!”

Church, don’t miss what just happened. Habakkuk didn’t say the harvest had returned. He didn’t say the danger had disappeared. He didn’t say all his questions had been answered.

He declared that even if everything around him failed, he would continue to rejoice in the God of his salvation.

That’s what I want us to understand about gratefulness.

Gratefulness is not pretending everything is good. It’s remembering that God is still good, even when everything isn’t.

Some of us have experienced seasons when the things we counted on were suddenly no longer there. We’ve faced unexpected disappointments. We’ve prayed prayers that haven’t been answered in the way we hoped. We’ve carried burdens that other people never knew existed.

But through it all, we can still recognize the faithfulness of God.

And here’s what I especially love about Habakkuk. He doesn’t end by saying, “Now the fig tree is blossoming again.” He ends by declaring: “The LORD God is my strength.”

What a revelation! His strength was not ultimately in the harvest. His confidence was not ultimately in the livestock. His security was not ultimately in his circumstances. His strength was in the Lord.

And that’s where our strength must be found as well.

Perhaps today you’re dealing with a situation that hasn’t changed. You may still be waiting for an answer. You may still be navigating uncertainty. You may still be walking through something you never expected.

But don’t allow the difficulty of your circumstances to erase your remembrance of God’s faithfulness.

Put a YET after your circumstances!

I’m disappointed — YET!
I’m still waiting — YET!
I don’t understand — YET!
Things haven’t worked out the way I hoped — YET!

YET WILL I REJOICE IN THE LORD!

Not because every circumstance is favorable. Not because every problem has been solved. But because the Lord is still the God of my salvation!

And tomorrow, as we gather for First Sunday worship and the Lord’s Supper, we’re going to remember the greatest reason for our gratitude: the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The Lord’s Table reminds us that our faith is grounded in what Christ has accomplished for us.

So come with a grateful heart. Come with your questions. Come with your burdens. Come with your testimony.

And together, let’s declare: EVEN HERE. EVEN NOW. EVEN IN THIS. I’M STILL GRATEFUL!

Today’s Reflection

  • What circumstances have been challenging my ability to remain thankful?
  • Have I been waiting for everything to change before giving God praise?
  • What does it mean for me personally to declare, “The LORD God is my strength”?

Today’s Congregational Challenge

Take a few moments today to write down three ways God has demonstrated His faithfulness in your life.

They don’t have to be dramatic miracles. Perhaps He gave you strength to endure something difficult. Perhaps He provided encouragement when you felt discouraged. Perhaps He surrounded you with people who cared.

Then take a moment to thank Him. And prepare your heart to worship with your church family tomorrow.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being faithful, even when life is uncertain.

Forgive us for the times we’ve allowed our circumstances to determine the measure of our praise.

Help us remember that Your goodness is not dependent upon our comfort, our possessions, or our understanding.

When the harvest fails, be our strength. When the way seems unclear, be our confidence. When our hearts are troubled, remind us of Your salvation.

As we prepare to gather around the Lord’s Table, help us remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the grace we’ve received through Him.

Give us hearts that remain grateful, voices that continue to praise, and lives that demonstrate Your love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Declaration

My circumstances may change, but my confidence in God remains.

I will not wait until everything is perfect to give Him praise.

The LORD God is my strength!

EVEN IN THE VALLEY. EVEN IN THE STORM. EVEN HERE.

YET WILL I REJOICE IN THE LORD!
