EVEN IN THE VALLEY, I’M GRATEFUL

The Shepherd Is Still With Me

GRATEFUL — Even Here, Even Now, Even in This

One Word • Every Generation

Today’s Word

Psalm 23:4 (KJV)

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Good morning, Ekklesia Family!

All week, we’ve been talking about gratefulness. We’ve learned to recognize God’s grace, appreciate the people He places in our lives, and demonstrate gratitude through our actions.

But today, I want to ask you something: Can you still be grateful when life doesn’t feel good?

It’s easy to say, “Thank You, Lord,” when the bills are paid, everybody is healthy, the family is doing well, and everything seems to be falling into place.

But what happens when life takes us through a valley? What happens when we experience disappointment, grief, financial difficulty, uncertainty, or circumstances we simply don’t understand?

David gives us an important perspective in Psalm 23. He doesn’t say, “Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I’ll never experience a valley.” He says, “Though I walk through the valley...”

Notice that word: THROUGH.

The valley is part of the journey, but it doesn’t have to become our permanent identity.

And David tells us why he can keep walking: “For thou art with me.”

That’s where our gratitude finds its foundation.

I may not be grateful for everything that has happened to me, but I can be grateful that God has not abandoned me in what I’m going through.

I may not understand the valley, but I can trust the Shepherd.

Sometimes we’re so focused on asking God to get us OUT of something that we overlook the grace He is providing to sustain us THROUGH it.

And here’s something else worth recognizing: the Shepherd who walks with us in the valley is the same Shepherd who led us beside still waters. His presence is not limited to pleasant places.

Church, gratitude doesn’t mean denying the pain. It means recognizing God’s presence in the middle of the pain.

Perhaps you’re in a valley today. Maybe nobody knows what you’re dealing with. Maybe you’ve been encouraging everybody else while privately carrying your own burdens.

I want to remind you that the Lord is near, even when the road is difficult. And because He is with you, you have a reason to keep walking.

Even in the valley, I’m grateful!

Today’s Reflection

  • Have I become so focused on my circumstances that I’ve overlooked God’s sustaining presence?
  • How has God provided strength, comfort, or encouragement during a difficult season?
  • Who might need me to remind them today that they are not walking alone?

Today’s Congregational Challenge

Reach out to someone who may be experiencing a difficult season.

Don’t assume that because they’re smiling, everything is going well. Offer a word of encouragement. Pray with them. Listen without judging. Remind them that they matter.

Sometimes God’s comfort reaches somebody through the compassion of His people.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being our Shepherd. Thank You that Your love and presence are not limited to the pleasant seasons of our lives.

When we walk through valleys of uncertainty, disappointment, grief, or difficulty, help us remember that You are with us.

Give us strength when we’re weary, peace when we’re troubled, and courage when the path ahead seems unclear.

Teach us to recognize Your goodness, even in the middle of circumstances we do not understand.

And help us extend Your compassion to those who may be struggling around us.

We thank You for Your faithfulness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Declaration

I may be walking through a valley, but I am not walking alone.

The Lord is my Shepherd. His presence is my comfort. His faithfulness is my confidence.

EVEN HERE. EVEN NOW. EVEN IN THIS.

I’M STILL GRATEFUL!
