Family, who told you that because you are going through something, God must have left you? We sometimes measure God’s presence by the absence of problems. If the bills are paid, the diagnosis is good, and everyone is getting along, we say God is near. But when the waters rise, we wonder whether He has gone.
Isaiah 43:2 offers a different picture. God speaks of passing through waters, rivers, and fire. The promise is not that hardship will never arrive. The promise is His sustaining presence in the midst of it. This was a word of hope to God's people in distress, and it reminds us of His faithful character.
Do not confuse a difficult season with divine abandonment. Tears are real. Loss is real. Fear can be real. We should never dismiss another person’s suffering or pretend that faith makes everything painless. Yet suffering does not get to define the limits of God's love. Romans 8:35–39 tells us that trouble cannot separate us from God's love in Christ.
Some of us are so focused on asking God to bring us out that we have forgotten to seek His help while we are going through. We can ask for deliverance and also ask for courage, wisdom, companionship, practical help, and strength for today.
Going THROUGH does not mean God has GONE. My circumstances do not cancel His faithfulness.
What hardship have I interpreted as proof that God has abandoned me? What would change if I looked for His sustaining presence within it?
Identify one difficulty you are facing. Name it honestly before God. Pray: “Lord, help me recognize Your presence while I am going through.” Then take one wise, practical step—ask for support, offer someone encouragement, or address a problem you have been avoiding.
God did not promise a life without waters or fire. He promised His presence through them.
Father, You see the waters and fires I face. Give me courage to tell You the truth about my pain. Help me recognize Your sustaining presence, receive help from others, and remain faithful in the next step. Remind me that hardship cannot separate me from Your love in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Ever feel like everything hits at once—school pressure, family tension, friendship drama, or worries you have not told anyone? It can make you wonder, “God, where are You?”
Isaiah 43:2 does not say we will never have tough days. It says God is with His people through the waters and fire. Having a hard time does not mean you are failing at faith or that God has forgotten you.
You do not have to pretend you are okay. Talk honestly to God, and tell a trusted adult, counselor, or mentor what you are facing. Faith and asking for help can go together. Sometimes God’s care reaches us through people who listen and stand beside us.
My struggle is part of my story, not proof that God has walked away.
What situation makes you feel alone? Who is one trustworthy person you can talk with?
Write down one challenge and pray, “God, help me see You with me through this.” Reach out to a trusted person if you need support. Then send an encouraging message to someone else.
You can be brave and still ask for help. You can have questions and still trust God.
God, some days are hard, and You know why. Please give me strength, wisdom, and people who care. Help me remember that You have not abandoned me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have you ever had to walk through a big rainstorm? You might feel nervous when the thunder gets loud. But imagine holding the hand of someone who loves you. The rain may still fall, but you do not have to walk alone.
In Isaiah 43:2, God tells His people He will be with them through waters and fire. It is a picture of His care when life is hard. God does not promise every day will be easy. He promises that He is faithful.
When you feel sad, scared, or frustrated, tell God how you feel and talk to a parent or trusted grown-up. Asking for help is a strong thing to do!
Even when life is hard, God has not forgotten me!
What is one hard thing you are facing? Who helps you feel safe and loved?
1. Does God promise that nothing hard will ever happen? (No.)
2. What does God promise in Isaiah 43:2? (To be with His people through trouble.)
3. Can we ask a trusted adult for help? (Yes!)
Draw a picture of yourself walking through rain while holding a helping hand. Write “God is with me” across the top. Then encourage someone who is having a tough day.
For families: Invite your child to name a difficult experience without rushing to fix the feeling. Listen, pray together, and identify one practical way you can help.
Hard days do not make God stop loving me.
Dear God, thank You for loving me on easy days and hard days. Help me be brave, ask for help, and remember You are faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
